Until 2005 the street light columns were of concrete construction, out of keeping with the character of the street. They were also in increasingly poor and inefficient working condition. The Residents' Association took this up with the City Council Highways Department and Conservation Officer, and with the support of local Councillors it was agreed that as the lights were due for replacement, a style more suitable for a conservation area could be installed. The photograph shows one of the new lamp standards, based on the traditional columns cast in Worcester by Hardy and Padmore but fitted with a modern luminaire.
